According to a recent Better Business Bureau alert, many scammers are charging stolen credit card numbers for a small amount of money, and many recent victims were billed $9.84. The scammers believe few cardholders will review such a small amount and that credit card companies won't aggressively investigate them.
If you notice a charge for this amount on your card and you didn't make the purchase, dispute the transaction immediately and close the card. The scammers could be "testing the waters" with your card and bigger charges may follow.
