When you’re busy, it’s easy to lose track of your checking account balance. We are pleased to be able to offer you several options to help prevent account overdrafts. This means if items are presented to your checking account and there are not enough funds available, they will be paid up to a disclosed limit for a fee.
FREE Savings Transfer
Available funds from your regular savings account will automatically be pulled into your checking account at no charge. To set up an overdraft protection transfer from another Affinity savings account, please contact us at 515-288-7225.
Personal Line of Credit
Like a loan, a personal line of credit can be used to cover account overdrafts should they occur. If you do not have sufficient funds available to make a purchase with your debit card or a check, your checking account will automatically pull funds from your Personal Line of Credit. If funds are used, you will make payments on the Line of Credit like you would on a loan.

Privilege Pay allows you to overdraw your account up to a $500 limit for a $25 fee in order to pay a transaction. After 60 days from the open date of your checking account, it will be determined if you qualify for Privilege Pay.
Please note: Affinity Credit Union will not pay overdrafts for ATM or everyday debit card transactions unless you have consented to the Opt-In Overdraft Protection.
Opt-In Protection is available as secondary coverage in addition to the options listed above. With Opt-In Protection, overdrafts for debit card usage are covered up to a $500 limit for a $25 fee. To do so, you must request to opt in.
Ready to opt in? Simply click here to download an Opt-In-Notice or opt in electronically through online banking by selecting the “overdraft services” option under the My Accounts tab.
Disclosure: The maximum benefit for Overdraft Protection/Opt-In is $500, including the fees. Each item paid by Standard/Opt-In Overdraft Protection will be charged a fee of $25.00.* If you have exhausted your Overdraft Protection/Opt-In limit, any items attempting to clear your account will be returned as insufficient. In addition, if you have a loan that is delinquent, your Overdraft Protection/Opt-In will be suspended until the loan is brought current. Whether your overdrafts will be paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing, or you are not making regular deposits, or you have too many overdrafts. You will have up to 30 days to bring the account to a positive balance or your Standard/Extended Overdraft Protection will be suspended until the account is brought to a positive balance.
*The fee is imposed of overdrafts created by checks, debit cards or by other electronic means.
